As an EU member state Cyprus applies the GDPR alongside national Law 125(I)/2018, giving residents strong formal data-protection rights. That said, Cyprus drew international scrutiny over the export of commercial surveillance and interception technology from firms based on the island, and EU data-retention obligations still require operators such as Cyta, Epic and PrimeTel to hold subscriber metadata. A VPN adds a practical layer on top of the legal one.

Connection troubleshooting
The Cypriot First Division is dominated by APOEL, Omonia Nicosia, AEL Limassol and Anorthosis Famagusta, with domestic rights held by Cytavision on a Cyprus-only basis. Derbies between APOEL and Omonia are among the most intense in Europe. Cypriot fans abroad — a substantial community in London in particular — cannot legally stream them without a Cypriot IP address.
