Ghana's Data Protection Act 2012 (Act 843) established a Data Protection Commission and is among the more developed frameworks in West Africa, complemented by the Cybersecurity Act 2020. Enforcement resources remain limited, and the Electronic Communications Act provides for lawful interception with operators MTN, Telecel and AirtelTigo required to cooperate. Encryption gives Ghanaian users practical control on top of the statutory rights.
