Rwanda enacted a data protection and privacy law in 2021 modelled partly on the GDPR, and Kigali has invested heavily in digital government. At the same time, press-freedom organisations rank the country poorly, several YouTube journalists have been prosecuted, and Rwanda was named in the Pegasus Project reporting as a suspected client of NSO Group spyware, allegations the government denied. Encryption is a sensible protection for Rwandan users.

Connection troubleshooting
Cycling has become Rwanda's signature sport: the Tour du Rwanda is one of Africa's premier races, and in 2025 Kigali hosted the UCI Road World Championships — the first ever held on African soil, a genuine landmark. Football's Rwanda Premier League, led by APR FC and Rayon Sports, is carried domestically by RBA. Coverage rarely travels, so a Rwandan IP restores it.

Gorilla permits and Lake Kivu stays are priced very differently for residents; local platforms are best reached from a Rwandan IP.
